Euro2008 nets 60,000 online viewers
June 26, 2008: Geißendörfer & Leschinsky GmbH (G&L), the leading German system house, and Limelight Networks are delivering live and on demand streams for UEFA Euro 2008. Every soccer match aired on the German TV channel, ‘Das Erste’ is made available as live online stream by G&L and Limelight Networks.
Over 60,000 users followed the quarter finals online. “This is a very significant number in Germany,” said Alexander Leschinsky, manager of G&L, “and it comes even with the TV broadcast getting over 75% market share for the same contests.”
G&L provides the live streams as Windows Media format and as Flash. Limelight Networks delivers the streams in three different quality formats. The broadcasts are available at http://sport.ard.de. There’s even an on-demand archive called ‘mediathek’ that will serve up replays of the past games.
