Background: Radio Bremen is the public radio broadcaster in Bremen. The broadcasting station produces, among others, four radio programs, two of which are co-op programmes and one substantial online presence.
The task: The radio programmes are to be broadcast live over the Internet. And Radio Bremen wants to provide its listeners with excellent service: information about the music programme, such as the title and artist of the current song are to be directly displayed in the running media players.
Our solution: We realise the redundant reception of the radio programmes. The signals are transcoded in Windows Media and Real and broadcast through the CDN of Akamai. We developed the dynamic metadata injection to automatically transfer the current values for the artist and title. The appropriate metadata is transferred every ten seconds from radiobremen.de, imbedded into the stream during encoding, and subsequently displayed on the media players used.
We enhanced this additional encoding feature for the WDR to MP3 format as well.
Overview of our services:
• Redundant programme reception and encoding,
• Delivery through the CDN of Akamai,
• Development of dynamic metadata injection for live streams.
